Problem identified with pih-authdb01 mysql server which appears to have crashed. This server is used for authenticating customers connecting to the mail collection servers.
Reason for the crash was due to incompatible structure of authentication data in mysql tables. The Table has been fixed however there are still reports of intermittent authentication failures. Continuing to investigate.
